Summertime Mallorca Wedding In Zuhair Murad Gown

❤️ The TWC Effect – Our brides, their way ❤️

Globe trotters Yulia & Lars found each other again and again! The pair were brought together by fate and stayed for love – a beautiful wedding full of family, friends and fun marks the start of their new chapter together. Here we have a little insight into their big day…

How did you meet?

We met almost 10 years ago at work – I just moved from New York to London for work, and my new desk was right next to Lars. Fortunately, we were in different sector teams and didn’t have to actually work with each other!

Was it love at first sight?

It was a special connection from early days for sure, mainly thanks to our similar (probably equally bad!) sense of humour. Our love started with lots of laughter.

However, there were twists and turns, and we didn’t get together until 4 years later. Despite changing jobs and moving on, the universe kept us two constantly bumping into each other in London. Four years later, we went on our “real” first date (first date number 5 by then, perhaps!), and it was so special. The rest is history.

Who proposed and how? Lovely details, please!

Lars knew I wanted it to be a real surprise.

On 03.03.2023, Lars proposed in Rome, at the top of the Spanish steps, with a perfect sunset view.

It was a few days after my 30th birthday and we went to my favourite city – Rome – with our friends to celebrate the occasion together. The night before, Lars booked a “casual dinner” just for the two of us and suggested we go for a walk before dinner. I didn’t suspect anything at all, even when a “random” photographer approached us around Spanish steps to take some pictures. The sunset was gorgeous and we were lucky to find Spanish Steps almost empty at that time. I only realised he was proposing when he got on one knee! It was so emotional and unexpected. It later turned out that he measured everything to the minute to hit the sunset time, my best friend helped him choose the ring, and the photographer was waiting for us to capture the moment…We then had the most romantic dinner with the view on Rome at the La Terrazza restaurant before our friends joined us for drinks. It was definitely one of the happiest days for us.

Did you have a theme for your wedding? How did it come about?

Between the two of us, we lived in 5 different countries and had to bring friends and family everywhere across the globe. Our main goal was to bring everyone together and make sure people had a great time, effortlessly. We had many great but complicated ideas, but in the end opted for a fun Mediterranean summer wedding with a relaxed atmosphere. We wanted to have dinner outside with beautiful sea views, and have a great party until late.

Location and how you found it?

It was a very difficult search. Thanks to a friends’ recommendation, we opted for Son Marroig, a beautiful venue in Mallorca, Spain. Located next to the rock formation Sa Foradada, this spot is famous for the best sunsets on the island, and is only 10 minutes away from a charming village of Deia. Son Marroig is listed as a UNESCO Heritage site, and offers stunning sea views.

We loved Mallorca for its beauty and flexibility, with direct flights from London, New York, and all over Europe. No one ever said NO to a summer weekend in Mallorca! It definitely came as a package with the summer heat wave, but we didn’t have to worry about the risk of rain, and were rewarded with the most incredible sunset I have ever seen. We also organised a full Wedding weekend of activities for our guests, including a boat trip around the island and a paella Welcome party at the lovely gardens of the La Residencia hotel in Deia.

How did you find The Wedding Club? Tell us about that moment when you found and chose your dress – how did it make you feel when you put it on for the first time?

It is a long story! I saw the preview of Zuhair Murad Spring 2024 collection online, and fell in love with the Polly dress. I reached out to the Zuhair Murad brand boutique in Paris, but was told the dress wouldn’t be available to try until October. It felt tight, and in the end I opted to go for a custom made dress with another designer for the ceremony.

I then switched my attention to the reception / party dresses, and came across the Wedding Club on Instagram. The brand selection looked great, and I came to try some of the sparkling party looks. At the end of my appointment, the Zuhair Murad rack captured my attention, and – out of curiosity – I asked about Polly. I didn’t see it first, but within seconds it was brought to me to try.

Needless to say, it was 10 times more beautiful in person, lightweight, delicate, and so comfortable to wear. It was perfect for me, and I felt like a fairy wearing that veil.

Of course I left the boutique feeling uneasy as I already had ordered a different dress months before. After two sleepless nights, the decision was made though, and it was so worth the investment. I ultimately decided  to wear Polly to the cocktail and dinner reception, and it was a perfect choice. I didn’t want to take it off!

Which designer did you wear?

Zuhair Murad. His lace dresses are magical.

Where is the suit from? Why was it the perfect fit?

Lars had a custom made 3 piece suit made by Hackett London Saville Row team. It was classy and fit perfectly.

Did you have speeches? Who performed them?

Yes we had a few very warm and heartfelt speeches by our families and closest friends. It was a healthy mix of sweet family speeches, and being properly roasted by friends.

Did you have a first dance? What song did you choose and why? How was the performance?

Argentinian tango. We took tango classes for a few months with an incredible tango teacher and performer – David, the founder of The TangoMovement school in London.

David choreographed a beautiful dance for us, and rehearsals with David were one of my favourite parts of the wedding prep. For the music, we chose Por Una Cabeza, played with a Spanish guitar. Many people know this music from the movie “The Scent of a Woman”, but the original music dates back to 1935 and has a lot of history in the tango world.

For the performance, we both changed into tango-inspired outfits. It wasn’t without drama as our music got lost for a few moments (note: some UK Spotify songs are not available in the EU!), but we managed to sort it out while guests enjoyed their Cava top-ups. The dance turned out beautifully.

How was the party?

Hot and fun!

Wedding planning advice for brides to be?

You will be spending a lot of time with your Wedding planners before the wedding, and with your photographers and videographers on the day. Make sure you get to know them and you “click”.  We had an amazing, fun group of people with Andy Nasta (photo) and Romavera (video) team on the day – they had great energy and created some really special moments.

One moment you’ll never forget:

The sunset just before dinner. After an intense and hot day, the sea was perfectly calm, the sun was huge, with an intense red colour, and everyone was in awe of its beauty. We stood at the balcony of the Son Marroig, watching our guests enjoy themselves during the cocktail reception, and admiring the view.

…And some brides may disagree, but I stand by my words: make sure your wedding dress is comfortable and you feel like yourself. The wedding day is stressful enough to suffer in an uncomfortable dress!
